Ever So Slowly

Life in the slow lane feels really good. There is time to think and to contemplate. That's my speed. Sometimes the mechanism for changing lanes is uncomfortable, but only briefly. One thing for sure, writing blogs has slowed way down as of yesterday.

While I was at my mother's, I was going too fast to have time to write, doing so many things I lost track of them all. For a period of time now I'll be doing fewer things. Who knows? I may just do less but write more.

The Things I Get To Do Today are learn how to do with my left hand and learn how to do with one hand--for awhile. "Shop till I drop" is not a good motto for a non-shopper. Caught my toe, took a fly, broke a bone in my wrist. Plenty of room for me in the slow lane.

  1. Ouch!! I fractured my right bone at the wrist last year but was too dumb to go get it xrayed for 2 mos. Yes, it was not fun trying to do things with the left hand... took a long time to learn. Hope your's heals quickly.

    1. Thanks, Farm Gal. It's already well on its way. Learning new things every day and loving it. An adventure always holds the promise of good things, and I'm having a grand one time.

    1. Already picking up a little speed--mostly finding that I can still do just about everything except crack eggs. But I am taking the time to reflect and enjoy all of this!

  8. Hi Andrea, I got a small splinter fracture in my right wrist last year from
slipping on wet leaves while walking the dog (of course) last fall. I was just soooooo grateful that I didn't mess my shoulder up again, that every time I looked at it I truly was relieved and happy.

Then when I was in the waiting room at Kaiser to have it checked out, this little girl came skipping out with a bright pink neon cast on her arm. She was obviously very delighted with her new adornment and had bright pink tennis shoes to match.

I decided right then that I was going to have fun with this too. So I got a wonderful purple colored cast and decorated it with silver glitter sparkles when I got home. Everyone commented on how beautiful and magical it looked.
I had my nails done and wore light silver sparkle polish to match. I put the polish over the white gauze areas on the cast as well because the gauze would get dirty so quickly. Basically it turned out to be an art project that I would redo every time I had a new cast put on.

I ended up doing almost everything with the cast on. My thumb got sore from bending over the cast and I was ready to get it off when the time came, but overall it was a surprisingly fun adventure.

I had worked so hard, along with your help, to get my shoulder strong again after dislocating it, my gratitude for not messing it up again never waned. Looks like you're already finding the up side of this, Andrea . . . lots of gifts to be found in the slow lane. xoxo
