Deep in the Heart of It

Checked the weather:  best day of the week to plark in the park (yard).  The general disarray and ragged, frost-browned plants had made me twinge since the cold had done'm all in a week or so ago. Cleaning up in the yard is definitely one of the Things I get to do today.

The clump with the ruby heart
To be honest here, I wasn't very excited about this "get to."  To make it more do-able, clearing one corner was my goal.  That's how it works:  pick one small, relatively easy section and do it well.  The encouraging energy from success in one area will provide fuel to move to the next area, and so forth.

Open-hearted!

I wasn't prepared for what happened first. A spindly clump of tall, decorative grass needed to be cut down.  When I bent over and broke off a stalk, I was stunned.  The ruby-hearted grass sent shivers through the whole of me, and I stared for a long while.  Whatever plant deva created that show and that sign touched the stalk with a bit of heaven.  None of the other grass stalks were anything but grey or green.

Well, the whole yard was slicked up before you knew it, and that's not important.  Just wanted you to look deep into the heart of the plark in the park.

Quotes

Bouquets to you!  "I like you just the way you are." Fred Rogers

I get one of them everyday. They are like a best friend: kind, helpful, encouraging and never, never judgmental. Reading it on line is part of the Things I get to do today--usually one of the first.

We often look at situations and rate them--on a scale of one to ten, with one being not so good and ten being the best.  A recent awareness broke open the lid on this scale for me:  it doesn't have to peak out at a mere ten.  The quote for today:

"Let your dominant intent be to feel good which means be playful, have fun, laugh often, look for reasons to appreciate and practice the art of appreciation. And as you practice it, the Universe, who has been watching you practice, will give you constant opportunities to express it. So that your life just gets better and better and better."
--Abraham (Abraham-hicks.com)

Get out there and play, have fun, laugh and appreciate.   There's a 15, a 20 and certainly a 100. Thanks for stopping by.  "May your day be blessing with good health, abundance and great, great joy."  I said that.

Out to the Woodshed--from the Ground up

Perfect location:  next to the privacy fence
Close but out of the way
Clear lines of where the pavers and frame were.
Now in its correct position.

He dropped by midday and announced, "Inspector's here to check you out."   Moments later it was clear that the pad/floor for the woodshed was too close to the fence leaving no room for the back wall needed to keep out the rain and let the wood dry which was the reason for the woodshed in the first place.  It's not everyday that the Things I get to do today include moving a foundation.  Oh, my, all in stride.  So much better to know that now rather than later.  Relatively simple process to move the "foundation" and paver blocks two inches away from the fence. Just glad my husband stopped by to eat his lunch.

Floor pavers and frame correctly position next to the fcnce
Back wall framed
Applying the reclaimed boards for the wall

Back wall in position

And in spite of the mistake, there was enough time in the between phone calls and dental appointments to frame up the back wall, put the boards on it and heft it into place.

It has been a Handy Andy's dream: free materials; vibrant, loving, warm weather with the chickens making lazy sounds for my music; an outdoor work shop complete with a brand-new compound miter saw (my Christmas present from consultant, coach, husband).  Talk about a day to plark! Hold my feet down to the earth, mama. I'm nearly blissed away!

Hit the Hay

I remember when I was little, and I haven’t been little for a long time. Since I’m over six feet, I had to start very young and just keep at it to get this tall. Nevertheless, when I was little, I was confused by the saying “hit the hay.”  I grew up on the farm.  I knew what hay was.  My grandfather grew it.  His field of alfalfa was across the road from our place.  That was hay.  Why anyone would want to punch the alfalfa was beyond me.

However, after a long day of plarking* which had followed a very short previous night of sleeping, I’m soothed by the knowing that sometime a smidgen before nine, I’m going to be in bed.  Fortunately I had figured out some years back, maybe when I was medium, that I didn’t have to spend the night slugging an alfalfa bale.  What they were really talking about was straw, which would make a much better mattress anyway with fewer poking stems.

So right after dinner, I head back to the bedroom to prepare for bed.  Oh, yes, there are still jobs that could be done, squeezed into the last crack of my consciousness.  But I suffer no guilt or shame because I read it right at the top of  the “Things I get to do today: hit the hay before nine.”

*You’ll just have to figure out the meaning of this word on your own this time.
