Dali Droop
Its time has run out. You can almost see the pocket watch draped over the edge. Whoever showed that picture to my cactus is in trouble, 'cause it's gone and done the Salvador Dali droop thing.
More than likely, I'm the one in trouble. Third cactus in a very short time that has exploded and died from too much water. This blog reminds me that I buried a cactus in January for the same reason. Please take "water the cactus" off the Things I get to do today. Oh, never mind. It's obviously too late.

When a Cactus Leans
I intend to be observant. Apparently I've been missing something. The cactus is leaning. If something thin and tall tilts a bit to one side, it's no big deal. But an orb shaped plant listing drunkenly spells trouble.
This cactus lives in the bathroom to help dispel (difficult) energy. Occasionally the pot is dipped in water for a minute, drained, and returned to its perch on the back of the toilet. The details are fuzzy in my mind, but perhaps it drank too much, or sat too long in water.
Lifting the plant to inspect the reason for the lean revealed that it was heavy, not dry and light as usual. The poor thing hung awkwardly toward the rim of its pot. It was bloated. A touch of a finger to its top caused the flesh to give way like soft Jello.
It must be time for Monsieur Cactus to go. Several Things I get to do today: settle on a way to respectfully dispose of M. Cactus, procure another spiny plant for the bathroom, and be more observant.

Cactus Dust
It took me years, but I finally did it. From past posts you know that dusting is not top on my list of favorite Things I get to do today. But I do it anyway--when necessary.
However I do like to clean the bathrooms, and I finally dusted the cactus that sits on the back of the toilet. Poor little guy has grown a soft gray fur over his short, sharp spines, and past attempts to dust him have been painful for me, and not so good for him either. There was the "blow off the dust" attempt, the "sit under the faucet" try, and the "ignore the crud" technique. None of these did anything, though sitting under the faucet put some sand in the sink and down the drain.
An old toothbrush stands in with me to reach all the little slimy, grimy places in the bathroom when I'm on a clean. Standing with the brush in my hand, seeing the cactus, I am finally, after more than several years, seeing how they go together. Sure enough, the toothbrush bristles were the perfect length to clean the spines and give Cactus Joe a scalp massage as well. Minutes later he was sparkly-spiky and ready to go back to work.*
*Energy off the tips of the cactus spines help break up congestion in areas like bathrooms.
